Could a KLX survive an EMP or Solar Flare

I dont' quite know how the spark system works on the KLX, it has no points, the major components should be ok. But the suspect parts would be a computer board or chip that would be the first to fry.
Better to go with the first blast of the elec pulse, what is left is a slow passing & a lot of pain.

you might want to do some reading on the effects of emp on non-grid connected items (ie cars, bikes, etc).
they are not nearly as sensitive as most people and the alarmists think.
emp can travel over transmission lines very easily and knock out computers, lights, etc. also the grid itself acts like a giant antenna capturing electromagnetic waves and makes the problem worse.
that kind of power transmitting through the air to build up in the frame (antenna) of your klx and fry the cdi ? the fillings in your teeth would probably be melted before you realized you bike wouldnt start. and im not talking about a nuke blast per se. that kind of energy production to emit a pulse that powerful would be quite a show i would think.

A solar flare induces disturbances on the power grid because it encompasses large distances. The disturbed power grid in turn may cause harm to electronic and electric equipments connected to it.
The KLX is not grid connected, thus it will survive solar flares without problem. An EMP event, however, be it from a nuclear blast or an EMP bomb, is a different beast. If you are close enough to it that the KLX electronics (CDI, instrument panel) are affected, I don't think there is any practical means to be immune to this. Anyway, you will have bigger problems if such a thing occurs...

On a more serious note, the more I've read about EMPs, the more I understand them not to be damaging to humans. There are tons of good and bad studies and commentaries on EMPs. The best testing has probably been done by governments (military etc.), and they usually don't release all they know as fact about the results or methods of protection.

I think if your bike is OFF when the emp hits, better yet the battery disconnected, there will be a less likely chance of a fry. On the other hand EMPs are their own power source so it could power up and fry your electrical system still...but not as a high of a chance when its on and running.

The question wasn't meant to be a discussion of EMP theory, but to identify the bike components that could fail and subsequently prevent the bike from running. The problem is the last major EMP occurred in 1859, well before cars were invented. So we really don't have any reference on how vehicles and motorcycles could be effected.
