Cooling system question
today I was riding with my new tire which ROCKS by the way. But at the first viewpoint we stopped at, after a pretty hard ride up to the viewpoint, I found the coolant overflow line was slightly dripping. It looked like beer foam comming out of the overflow tube. It came out about 1cm then formed a drip and dripped down onto my swing arm. I've never seen this before and I always leak check my bike when we stop to rest or BS. Either I've missed it doing this or it just started. The coolant resivoir is just under the full mark, which is where it has been since I got the bike back in may. Today is not any hotter than any other day I've ridden, 74 degrees today. I felt all the coolant hoses with the bike idling and they are all the same hotness(I didnt have a thermometer with me) The radiators are clean, also full of coolant. I cut our ride short today just in case something is failing and I caught it before it completely failed. The oil is clean, no milky look to it. The bike is stock with 9k miles. If the bike was running hot or overheating wouldnt the coolant resivoir fill itself FULL then overflow? anyways is it normal for the cooling system to foam coolant out of the recovery tank overflow after a hard ride? or what is happening?

To be honest I've never checked. But if your levels are all the same and looks good in appearance I dont see a problem. Maybe its just from sloshing around while riding and some getting to the hose. Just keep an good eye her. Was there any foam on top of the coolant in reservoir? If there is maybe a compression leak.

I pulled the side cover right then and there and checked the overflow tank, there wasnt a drop of foam. My bike has the temprature light on it and it didnt come on. I highly doubt the bike was even running hot, cause you can tell when an engine is running hot. I am going to change the coolant to engine ice tomorrow since my cousin offered up a free half gallon. which is what this bike holds.

well, if it did it on the "hard section" i would just the bumps have caused the foam. i would keep an eye on it, or change the coolant like you are doing and keep an eye on it. good luck, tell us what the problem was as well when you find out

I wish my bike was making beer foam.
I don't think you have a problem if the coolant level in the overflow tank looked OK afterwards.
Maybe check the radiator level when its cooled down.
If the coolant still looks clean, and the levels are alright, I would do nothing.

Hmmmm........Make a klx than burns methane and emits beer and beans. Rider eats and drinks exhaust. rider's "exhaust" gets routed to bike's intake. you can ride forever!
