Default Coolant/ PICS with aftermarket Radiator hose added

Anyone have an opinion on coolant. I am getting ready to change out my radiator hose and assume that it would be easier to change it as opposed to save the coolant and put it back in. Also, I couldn't find the total capacity of coolant in my 07 KLX. Anyone know what volume I need to fill the system. Any pointers on changing out the radiator tubing? Thanks.

I would recommend Engine Ice. When I change out my coolant that's what I will use. I have used it in previous bikes and a lot of my riding buddies swear by it.

Have any idea on the volume needed to fill the system?

I don't off the top of my head. I think one bottle would do the job. Someone will probably chime in with the exact amount needed.

Fill it to just below the neck. Cap it and run the engine a bit to circulate the coolant. Let it cool down some then check your level. If it's not where you had filled it to add some so that the level is just below the bottom of the neck. That's how I do it and haven't had an issue yet. I go with engine ice too.

That Engine Ice looks decent...probably has a water-wetter agent in it...but I'm not as high on the biodegradeable coolants. For do-it-yerself stuff, just get regular Prestone or other brand of common ethylene glycol type coolant and mix it at about a 60% distilled water and 40% coolant. A water-wetter agent like Purple Ice, Redline, or others is good stuff, but the KLX is a cold blooded bike IMO and doesn't need it as badly as some other bikes. But it only needs about 4oz. of wetting agent, so what the heck.

Some make the mistake of mixing too much coolant with the distilled water, and coolant doesn't run as cool as water to the surprise of many. The KLX system holds about 1.5 quarts when bone dry.

I dont know if you can get it in the US, but I use silkolene PROCOOL in my bikes, it meets all the standards that the KLX needs & found it runs cooler with it, its ready to use out the bottle & you dont dilute it with water.

I use Prestone 50/50 already mixed. The KLX takes like 2 quarts, but not the whole gallon jug. Just drain the old coolant through the bolt located at the bottom of the water pump. Flush the coolant system with clean water. Let it cycle for a little bit and then drain again. Then just re-fill with fresh coolant.
