I've been using my KLX250R to commute 70km round trip but due to the limited power and capacity to carry stuff I've traded it in on a KLR650 which is much nicer for the road. However, I might end up with another KLX in future in additon to the KLR once the KLR has pissed me off enough when used off-road

 

For my commuting luggage I bought a 15x15 bungee net that has 3 hooks down 2 sides. I strap my softside cooler lunch bag on there (about the size of a 6 pack) and it fits nicely around it, the hooks are moveable so you can adjust it to load size. I've also stuffed the Joe Rocket gear pack on top as well and the netting wasn't stretched to full capacity even with an 8 inch wide load that was over 14 inches high. It looks silly sometimes but for $5.00 I'm not going to let it bother me. Some small saddlebags would be awesome though so I could put some tools in there or something.
