Default cold weather gear test

Well here are my results.I recently purchased a Fieldsheer adventure jacket and pants for the colder months.I did mass quantities of research and listened to alot of reviews on different forumns to go this route. All I can say is that the results exceed my expectations for gear.
first off.....I wore them to work the other night and i only wore a pair of long johns and a long sleeve T underneath and the outside air temp was 29 degrees and i was toasty warm after my 14 mile commute.absolutley O air comes thru this thing or has any drafts.
The jacket is heavy but it fits well (i'm 5'9 160 lbs ,medium jacket and large pants) and has enough ways to adjust it that i don't think i'd ever have an issue fitting it.The pants fit perfect (i'm a 32/34W 30/32 L) and you easily swing the leg over the hight of the KLX withought binding of movement.
In the seated position on the bike everything fits very well and does NOT creap up the legs or your back. You can also zipper the pants to the jacket if needed.
My only gripe about the entire setup is the lower pants outer zippers .If you are not careful they will tend to catch the liner in the zipper and it is a BEAR to get them out....(maybe shrink the amount of material here???) but other than that excellent quality thruought.
I'm still finding pockets on the jacket which cracks me up and overall I found a great deal.
The jacket retails for 269.95 and the pants for 179.95 but I went Internet shopping and found a lowball of 199$ for the jacket and 129 for the pants at motorcycle closeouts . com .That was the best price i found for them anywhere.
Just shy of buying the Rev-Tech rev-it jacket at 475$ i doubt you'll find a better working jacket than this.....
Tonight i will try it out in the rain with the 40 degree temps forecasted.
I'm also using a Schampa fleece headsock (31.95) and a pair of ARC back country gloves that i scored for 24.95 from rocky mountain atv.My boots are regular Thor 50/50's and i wear good hunting socks in them....
all in all stay warm this winter and keep riding.!!!

Great review! How are you liking those gloves? I keep eyeing them but they looked so thing I didn't think they'd be much warmer than the Sno-Cross gloves I tried out last year. I've been wearing thick insulated leather work gloves and they work pretty well but are so stiff/thick that they aren't great for finessing the controls. Do you still have the stock handguards on the bike or have you gone aftermarket? If aftermarket how high above the bars do the deflectors sit? With my Tusk guards and extended spoilers the airflow is just barely above my knuckles. What kind of lining is in the jacket? I did 20 miles at 70mph Saturday night and it was 32 degrees and I was throroughly chilled when I got home. I had my Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket, the zip in rain/windproof nylon liner, a heavy cotton long sleeve, and a plain cotton short sleeve. After the first 3-4 miles my body temp had dropped considerably. The wind doesn't flow through this setup but the cold material pressing against me sucks the heat right out. I've tried a fleece jacket instead of the rain liner and its too hot when stopped but the wind cuts through when moving.

the gloves are AWESOME but when it get's really cold you definatley need higher handguards than the Acerbis enduros that i currently have. I have the short guards but the tall guards would be perfect.I do manage on my 14 mile ride however as my hands don't get too cold till about 10 or 11 miles into the ride.I also keep my guards rotated up some to prevent air from going up the sleeves.
Here is the listing for them.

Shell/Liner:
[ul][*]Super abrasion resistant 1000 Denier Teflon™ coated Maxtena™ outer shell[*]Anatomically fitted for the riding position[*]Removable Thermo Pilot Jacket liner which can be worn as a jacket separately[*]FieldSheer Rainguard® 100% waterproof/breathable membrane[*]Removable Hydro Block™ collar extender, which deflects the rain between your helmet and jacket[*]4 step unique adjustable sleeve volume control, in upper and lower sleeves, keeps the armor snug for small and large arms with or without the liner zipped in[*]Velcro® adjustable waist and hip straps to keep the jacket snug[*]Gusseted Velcro® adjustable wrist cuff[*]FieldSheer storm flap system on main zipper[*]8" waist zip connector and universal snap belt connector (attaches to pants)[/ul]
Safety:
[ul][*]Removable CE Approved armor in the shoulders, elbows and back[*]SP Memory Foam™ in high impact areas[*]Reflective Phoslite® incorporated in extra panels in front and back for high visibility, including a fold down panel by the rear exhaust vent[/ul]
Ventilation:
[ul][*]RAM AIR® direct ventilation system, zero membrane ventilation interference[*]4 front intake vents allow fresh air in[*]1 large rear exhaust vent to allow hot stale air out[/ul]
Pockets:
[ul][*]2 zippered front hand warmers[*]3 Velcro® upper chest[*]2 Velcro® and zipped cargo[*]1 zipped map[*]1 inside Velcro®[*]1 mobile phone[*]1 rear pocket[/ul]
Certifications/Warranty:
[ul][*]CE Approved armor[*]1 year limited manufacturer's warranty[/ul]
They pretty much have the bases covered with this.If you need more info or have more questions just ask me and i'll try to help out.

Sounds nice!
I bought a snowmobile jacket on clearance a couple moths ago made by Arctiva for 35 bucksoff Dennis Kirk. I wore it yesterday for the first time riding with vlodpg (paul). I was very happy with the warmth and wind resisitance. Best of all, its Kawasaki green so u will match your bike and be seen!It was only around 40 degreesout yesterday here in CTand the only thing that was cold on me were my legs (shoulda wore some long underwear). The jackethas a removable liner, which i kept in,2 full length zippers (one for the liner), and velcro to cover up theoutter most zipper. Really stops the wind. It seems to be made well andfeels durable.
Anyways, keep an eye put on dennis kirk for there clearances, they usually have some real good sales.Got a full face HJC gelemet too for 45 bucks.
