Default Cold starting

Can anyone tell me how to overcome the cold starting issue?

After one week it's not to bad to start, but after two weeks drain the battery to get her going.

Does any one have any ideas on how to sort this out?

Leem are you using the choke for cold starting?? When my bike is cold itWILL NOTstart unless I use the choke. then it fires right away!

Yep choke fully on.
Heard of this problem before. Kawa dealer says it's part of life when u buy a KLX.

The KLX starts fine adfter one week but after two it's a painful process.

That's odd, because mine started right up after sitting in cold storage for 5 months.

Mine is hard starting too. Over 2,000 miles and it still needs the choke on 80 degree days. []

I think carburation is the issue. I've got the carb needles coming and will try to fix it myself. Also, if you set your idle to 2,000 RPM it will start easier. [:'(]

The starting problem seems to be there on some of the KLX's will there is no problem on others.

One trick that almost always works is to turn off the fuel petcock, drain the carby bowl using the little screw at the bottom, close the screw again then open the petcock, letting fresh fuel into the bowl from the gas tank. She should start right up after that.

You can avoid that whole procedure by just turning off the petcock and letting the bowl run dry before you shut her down for the day.

Thanks Tremor38

Sounds like good advice.
Will switch of the fuel next time and let her run out of fuel.
Could be the fuel going stale over a two week period.

Mine was hard to start cold too some one in a post said to pull the choke out but not till it clicks you have to hold it then crank her over then once she fires click the choke out and let her warm up.Sounds silly but works for me!!I hate when it will not start i could light it on fire when it would not start but now it works unless it is about 4 degrees C.Sometimes when i will not be driving for a while i drain the bowl it helps also.

For some reason mine is a lot easier to start cold since I have put my staintune pipe on it, previously I always let the fuel run out, don't know if the pipe did actually make a difference but hey I haven't let the fuel run out the last couple of times and it has started first go everytime.

Cheers
Chris.
