Default Clutch Assembly compatibility

Hi guys

I am seriously debating getting an auto clutch for my bike, but cannot afford to remove my clutch, send it over to the US (EFM Clutches) for modification, and waiting for it to come back - I use my bike every day for riding to/from work. So what I am thinking of doing is getting a clutch assembly off eBay and getting that modified.

To this end, does anyone know how compatible clutch assemblies are between the various generations of KLX? It seems the 2010 engine is pretty much identicle to the 2000-2007 engine, so would it be safe to assume that a clutch assembly from one of those bikes would work in mine? What about a 1998/1999 model - has the engine changed much (or at all) from those bikes?

Thanks for any help.

i would go to one of the online oem parts finders, and look at the clutch assemblies for the years that you find on eBay, to the 2010, and see if the part numbers are the same.

Thanks jxg, good suggestion.

So I've done the side-by-side comparison of the 1994 clutch parts to the 2010 KLX250s and this is what I came up with (I have circled different part tags in red, and highlighted parts that are on one model but not the other in blue):

To me it looks like the clutch assemblies are almost identical (assuming the differences in washers is insignificant) except for the clutch spring and a bolt. But I have an untrained eye. When I look at the detail in the parts list I get concerned though as there are differences:
e.g. Tag 13086 - Wheel-Clutch the 1994 part number is 13086-1072 while the 2010 is 13086-0004

Can anyone tell me whether that is going to be a problem? Does the difference in part numbers mean the parts are significantly different? Or is it just a case of a minor change in number every year even though the part is essentially the same part?

Any/all help would be most appreciated. I really don't want to make an expensive mistake if I can help it. Thanks.

13095, the clutch housing is different number too.
1994 - 13095-1360
2010 - 13095-1352
Look different as well.
