Default Clarke Tank Install Questions/concerns

Is this gap normal?

The stock tank rests on the rubber pads on the frame rails.

The Clarke tank appears to touch the frame at the front and angle away towards the rear.

I'm slightly concerned that a significant proportion of the weight is supported by the side bolts and not the frame rails.

The shrouds fit perfectly but there is no way I can get the tank to sit flat on the frame rails.

How is it for others who have a Clarke tank?

The gap is normal. Some have put a higher rubber piece on, others that haven't I don't think have reported any problems.

Yeh I figured it was "normal" as I bought 2 tanks and they are the same.

I think it could have been a neater job though.
How hard could have been during the design process to have it sit parrallel to the frame rail?

I think too that there are some small details that Clarke should have addressed before they let the tank go to the public.

Its kind of funny though, if you look at the pic of the klx on there site or in the catalog they send the gaps are very minimal compared to pics I have seen on here and my bike included.

Well I have now fitted 2 tanks to 2 different bikes and IMHO the fit is poor.
The intention was certainly to have the tank fit more neatly against the frame rails.
There are even small indentations in the tankwhere the rubber spaces are supposed to fit.

The angles on the tank look the same as the frame angles but if you pushed it down far enough to get the tank closer to the frame, the mount holes will not line up.
Plus there isn't enough room under there anyway.

Another problem I had was the small spacer under the bolt where the front of the seat clips onto the tank, is wider than the size of the slot on the seat clip.
Oh and the rear tank bolt is too long. No big deal really.

Yeah I held off cause when the first group got theirs there was a few fitting problems and I didn't like the gaps. IMO it wasn't worth the money to get it in Australia

With the Aus $ being so strong I had no issue with the money. $500 for 2 tanks landed is quite good value IMO.

And the aesthetics don't bother me either as my bike is only used off road and it's quite beat up already.

The extra fuel will be useful.

What I am concerned about is the extra strain that may be placed on other contact points because the frame rails are not supporting the tank as they should be. Especially when the tank is full and I'm getting air. (6" is still air right?)

But as nobody seems to have had problems, I'm probably worrying unnecessarily, but I will fabricate some spacers so I can sleep.

I found that quite entertaining myself.

I had to mod my bike to get the fuel fittings clear of the frame, and I also had the same problem with the tank not restng on the frame rails. Could it be possible that the frames on the KLX may not be consistent?
