Changing tires, get new chain? Sprockets?

You can always keep a master link in your tool kit but why on earth would you replace one? The new chain will have a new master link.

My 09 has 6474 miles on the stock chain with about the last 2000 being a 351.
Most of the time I run 12X42 with 14X42 for more hiway. Last ride I put a 15 on just to see the diff. No more 14 for me. When I get new it will be 12&15x42.
I ran Kanda "Washougal Sticky" front and back but just went with a Kenda "Track Master"120X100 out back to see if the wear was any different.

So if I removed the ML on my 430 mile chain I would replace the ML. Silly? Maybe but it's worth the safety margin, :-)
Thanks

I will ask the local shop.
12 tooth shows 07 and older. newer ones only go to 13. different part numbers. It would be nice to get a 12 and see if it works. hth

You are supposed to replace the last piece of the master link each time you remove it. the thin split clip that holds the side plate on. I have only changed mine when the little split gap looks like it isn't completely closing up. I have a 12 T sprocket for my "07" and i assume that the sprockets fit the "09"s up too. ? I dont have a part number sorry.

Thanks for the sprocket info Dan. On the master link deal, some times the wear pads wear on the spring clip making them sharp. I keep a close eye on how they are wearing and always have one or two in good shape in my tool box. Ya never know.
