Default chain & sprockets

hi guys

i was just wondering what chain & rear sprockets your running.

i bought sunline gold sl-1 works chain and a sunline 48t rear gear.

the rear doesent look much different than the cheap stock one.

i changed all this at about 350 to 400 km , now i have 1334.4 km,

i've adjusted the cams 2 times this year and took out 1 1/2 links

and this ****** is still streching like a rubber band. the first run

this year it droped off two times and jamed up on the front gear to

the point were i had to drop the mast link and walk it back. ride over,

five min push to the truck. ride two , more chain strech, off again and

a good size stick in the guide, chain off jams up on the swingarm!!!

dead stop almost over the bar's. ten min's to unjam and a slow ride

back to truck, pulled a mussle in the back picking it up out of the ditch.

ride #2 over , two hrs to get there , less than an hour ride , all these

problems = priceless. i was looking at the sidewinder tri-metal and one

of there ti chains. [www.sidewindersprockets.com] does anybody use

there stuff . i didnt think a 250 4stroke would be that hard on a chain.

Sorry to hear that man. Rule #1, always carry a spare master, in fact I carry 2. I have never had a chain come off, are you running it too lose? I'm running the Gold Rhenthal O-Ring chain, it was like $100, but its awesome. I really haven't had much stretch in 1000 miles.

+1 with the Renthal R3 o Ring. Working well for about 1500km. Running 13 ,45 gearing. Lowering the chain torque helps the life of the chain.

I'm running the PrimaryDrive gold chain and close to 2000 miles in and its still working great. Maybe running it too loose/tight is all I could think of, other than the chain is a POS ?

Thumbs up

al , I use the Sidewinder stuff. Tri-metal rear mounted w\ their Ti-moly bolts. Ti-moly in front. Didn't go totally high end on the chain (300$) , went w\ the 130$ TI Smart Chain. I like this settup, very high quality . If you go this route be sure to get some of their chain lube. Best lube I've tried and I've tried many in hard core conditions (Pacific Northwest) The guys at Krause Racing are pretty helpfull, too. Whatever you choose, good luck! And get the lube anyway.

Theres something wrong. I have the stock chain on my 09 (and other than removing the wheel to mount a new tire and install a 13 tooth CS sprocket) I have had to tighten it once in over 2200 miles. Check to make sure that
1) your chain has the correct free play I think it's approximately 35-40 mm at the end of the wear pad. But verify in your owners manual. make sure cams aren't slipping or worn or peg is bent and that the axel nut is staying tight.
2) make sure the chain is aligned. sight down the chain and make sure it is a straight line.
3) check to make sure the sprockets aren't bent (and that the CS sprocket is installed correctly I think there is a shoulder),same for the chain guide, also inspect the chain, you don't have anything goofy like the sprockets aren't the right pitch for the chain ? 520 chain I believe.

There is no way you should be having that much trouble.
