O-ring chain, don't worry much about rust on the side plates. Oil and ride.

I don't guess I've ever cleaned my chain and sprockets on the KLX. The o-ring chains I use and some Chain Wax spray lube seem to take care of everything. Since I don't compete in enduros anymore, I don't have to plow through every mudhole and river like I used to. I ride mainly in drier areas like deserts or mountains...clean, clear water...so my drivetrain doesn't get the abuse it used to as frequently.

The first Foto is how it should be, second Foto shows how it currently is. The black layer on the chain is rust mixed with Kerosene. Cant get that **** off... maybe better just ride

A layer of surface rust isn't much to worry about. If the links are binding, it's getting time for a new chain.

Did you ever think that kerosene is a solvent? Your chain has grease/oil in it, why would you want to dilute that, so it looks shiny? Why do you have a KLX?

Kerosene is what most of the chain manufacturers recommend for cleaning.
I don't care about looking shiny (but I don't dislike ), I care about cleanliness, and this is my solution to have a clean chain.
The bike feels "lighter" with a clean chain, and less power is lost due to friction. Plus it extends the life of the chain (and sprockets), less noise, less gunk and I don't need expensive chain cleaner solutions.
Did I mention it saves the environment?

I don't have a KLX, I have a Versys 650, but this was a chain cleaning thread, so it was directly related to my idea.
