Default Chain snapped going uphill

Its been a while since I took my KLX for a ride due to the fact that I have been riding the hell outta my VTX. Well I got on my KLX today and took it for a nice ride, wow I forgot how fun this bike could be, while underpowered, well next to the VTX, it does have more then enough adequete power to get you to where you need to go. I go to a nice riding place and was going up this steep hill, and POW, my rear wheel locks up and I almost go flying over the bike, I was like "WTF" . I looked down and to my dismay the chain was snapped. I mean one link was broken, and also 5 other links were cracked. Luckily I was not on a major highway when this happened, whew. I lubed up the chain before I headed out but I guess that it had been dry for such a long time that it got brittle. Anyhow I need a new chain, and I might get a new rear sprocket also. Oh and when the chain broke I was in the middle of nowhere. Luckily my friend went riding with me and he had a dirt bike which he had to trailer to the place, so I was able to load it up in the truck, damn that saved my ****.
Well, can't ride the bike till I get a new chain, whats a qaulity chain that I can get for cheap??

Shouldn't that be covered under warranty?

Hey incabiker, bad news about the chain! But not to change the subject, I'm looking at the VTX my self and was wondering what one you have the 1800 or the 1300, and also how do you like it. any input would be appreciated

I got an RK X-ring 520XSO. X-ring is considered to be longer lasting than standard o-ring because its "o" ring has two contact points like an 'x' for a better seal for keeping the crud out.

I doubt the chain is covered by the warranty, just like the brake shoes or the tires aren't covered, but I'm just guessing.[&:]

Hey guys, I have a question for purchasing a new chain. Should I go O-Ring again or just a standard chain?? If I keep up the maintenance on a non-o-ring chain, as in cleaning and lubing after every ride, should it still last a pretty long time, or will the o-ring just be a better bet in the long run?
