yes, gasoline is a very harsh liquid. It will disolve the glues in your oil filter and eat away rubber....slowly of course. Its not like cartoon acid that that as soon as it touch it it goes away or anything.
Kero is the best, easiest, and cheapest chemical to use for it.

Not sure if it was on THIS forum that I saw a comparison of several liquids to clean your chain BUT many of the commonly used liquids caused the o-rings to swell (and SOME caused considerable swelling). As I recall, it was kerosene that did the best job without swelling the o-rings. A clean/lubricated chain is a happy chain. . . at least that's what a Chain Whisperer told me. . .
