Carb jetting pointers

Carb jetting pointers
I put a two bros slip-on onto my bike last night, tonight is the carb re-jetting. Does anyone have any pointers for a newbie on the procedure that may be overlooked in some directions? (specifically using the '09 KLX250 kit from DynoJet)

i am well aware of the search function, i just was hoping for some quick & dirty pointers so i dont screw up, not spend my time rummaging through posts that get off topic debating the best way to mod the airbox (no lid, no snorkel, kdx snorkel, hack it up, etc)

Chris,
I just did my re-jet last night with the Dynojet kit.
Just follow the instructions that come with it. It was easy and my bike fired right up and ran well.
Just be sure to make sure that when you pull the slide out, you note which side faces which way and put it back in correctly. Also open the throttle butterfly and ensure that the needle is inserted into the hole.
Other than that, keep everything clean and be sure to not get any of the metal shavings in the carb when drilling the pilot screw plug. I actually did this part first before even opening the carb.
Good Luck!

Just for reference, mine was set up a dyno with a sniffer up the pipe. KDX snorkle and a big gun system. 1st run was with a 125 main, 300 needle 2nd notch and a 38 pilot. It floundered between 14-16 AF ratio bottom thru mid and went went way lean on the top end. ran good though. A 128 main and 40 pilot went in and it pulled an almost perfect 13 AF all the way across, and picked up 2 hp from 8-9000 rpm.
Down side is, when I took it into the mountains (3-5k) it ran like crap, too rich. Pulling the box top and uncorking the pipe didn't even help, so I'm now reconsidering the jetting.

I had the DynoJet kit that said to not replace the pilot. I dropped in a 128 main (per its instructions) & their needle on clipped on the 3rd slot w/ 2 shims. The fuel mixture screw was backed out 3 turns from the bottom.
It ran wonderfully... for a few miles. Then it sputtered, I switched over to reserve thinking I lost a good bit of gas, and the engine died anytime the tach was over 2500. This resulted in a nice 1 mile push back home, needless to say I'm feeling it this morning.
I'm hoping I lost more fuel than I realized when pulling the carb, but that wouldnt explain why my reserve was pretty much bone dry too would it? Or did I possibly mess something up along the way?
Any ideas?

Did you open the airbox/pull snorkel and put in a high-flow filter? If not, it would have been running rich and you might have fouled the plug real bad. Have you pulled the plug and checked the color yet?
If its not that, then you are not getting anough fuel into the fuel bowl for some reason.

i just pulled the snorkel and followed the directions for aftermarket exhaust & snorkel removed in the dynojet kit. Could be running rich if they assume a less restrictive filter. I have to pull the plug when i get home today to check it out. I'm hoping i wont have to change the jet again since it is a pain to pull the carb out.
