Default Can I ditch the 2 hoses under gas tank?

I found 2 hoses attached to the bottom of the tank that just ran through the frame and dump on the ground. I'm assuming just some overflow lines, or is that how the tank is vented?. Can I plug the holes? If I tip over in the woods, will gas poor out of them onto my hot muffler???????? yikes !!!

Thanks.

crf -
I pulled mine off and haven't had a problem. I didn't plug them, however. They just take up too much space.

btw - I usually stay out of forum politics but I think we seriously need to consider banning oldphart... it's getting annoying.

I believe those two hoses are the gas tank vent hoses. You can re-route them, but its probably best to leave them or keep them away from heat sources since they vent gas fumes.

And what the heck is with oldphart?

Minimize them, get a 'y' connector from the auto parts store an make it only one. Then its still vented.

I wondered the same thing. You should vent down away from hot things. You don't want gas leaking onto you!

A 2 into 1 connector might help miminize clutter. I'm not sure if it's a good idea either, I think there are 2 for a reason. You could get black hoses or something to hide them a little.

When you tip over, fuel should leak out of the carb from 2 hoses on the left and ride sides of the carb. Careful with routing those too, they can easily burn and melt on the headpipe.

I hate how the gas comes out of the carb when you dump it... I've lost so much trail time because of running low on gas lately... (cause I crash so much...)

This bike is so cluttered with B.S. hoses and whatnot that I don't even try to clean it all up. I snipped off the goofy bottle on the bottom and used the plug into that hose, since its just a drain from the airbox... but I've left all the vent hoses alone.

Busted mine while trail riding. Didn't care enough for it, so I never replaced it. Theres still just the plastic end clamped on the end of the hose.
