And I filed/sanded those fish gill marks down on the piston.. Extra displacement!!! hahaa

So now I'm calling it a KLX351.5

PS - the valve did not need lapping, I poured rubbing alcohol int the exhaust port and it didn't leak a bit. Thanks for that tip Brewster

Here's what I made



Worked perfect

Used big C-clamp.. Put the head on a table with a folded up rag underneath that valve so it was right up on it.

Then used the clamp to clamp the whole thing to the table, and was able to just slide the keepers right in the hole.

One shot, one kill

very creative, it's always nice when you can make you own tool to ease the job along. Let us know how the gaskacinch works out.

I will do that.

On a side note - does anyone know what the stock shim thickness is?? Or am I'm blind for not seeing it in the manual?

I am within spec on all, but the new valve is just barely.. The other exhaust is .15, and this one is .229..

Both intakes are at .152

The bike runs great though. Re-torqued the head, and went for a short spin. Took up to highway speeds, all seems well. I hope the gasgacinch does it's duty and that's the last time changing that farkin head gasket!

I guess the good part is I'm a pro at it now!

So should I re-shim that new exhaust valve, or just keep checking it periodically and swap it if it goes out of spec? I see in the manual how to select the new shim, just don't know what the current one is.

Normally the valve clearances close up with use so your .229 is ok and it is within the specs. It is the intake valves that we have the problem with. They seem to loose clearance at a much greater rate than the exhaust valves.
