Default cam position

hey guys i need some help, my motor was making some noise, and i dont trust the dealer so i decided to check my valves myself. When i make sure the mark is on t.d.c. the cam lobes all are pointing towards the spark plug, from other pics it looks like they should be pointing away from the spark plug... wtf.. little help... first time doing this.... i cant get a measurement on them with the lobes pointing towards the spark plug... any input?

It's not necessarily wrong. Use this procedure to find TDC. Turn the crankshaft rotation bolt counter clockwise while watching the inlet valves - valves closest to the rear of the bike. When the valves have just finished opening and closing (moving downward adn returning upwards), turn the crankshaft continuing in the same direction about 1/2 turn until the "T" mark is lined up in the notch. The camshaft marks should then line up with the top of the cylinder head and the piston should be at TDC.

Are your lobes correct now? I think the critical thing is that you go about 1/2 turn ccw _after_ you see the inlet valves open and then close. If I'm not mistaken, and I could very well be since I just loaded up on pain meds, a 4-stroke engine hits TDC twice during the firing cycle. You probably have it at TDC during the other portion of the cycle.

Your valves are probably 180 degrees out. I can remember on my dr250 when doing the valve adjustment that the valves would be at TDC Or 180 degrees out. IE - exactly opposite from what they should be.
