I was looking at Marcelinos original post and dyno charts. Stock vs. Marcelino setup.
rpm-stock-Marcelino-Delta
3k. - 9hp. - n/a
4k. 9hp. 10hp. +1
5k. 12hp. 14hp. +2
6k. 16hp. 18hp. +2
7k. 19.5hp. 22hp. +2.5
8k. 18.5hp. 24hp. +5.5
9k. 16.5hp. 22hp. +5.5
10k. 11hp. 18hp. +7
I can imagine it only gets better with full exhaust. Stock power peaks around 7200, Marcelino at around 7800.

When comparing the KLX's to the KX250F, keep in mind the operating range that each operates in. The KX250F goes well above 12,000 rpm and the KLX's top out around 9,000 rpm. Horsepower is proportional to rpm if the torque remains constant. That alone would account for over 30% increase out of the KX250F.
The Dynojet dyno run puts the max output of the KX250F near 32hp.

Now...I'm obviously kidding, but it shows how you have to watch where any alleged power figures come from. Interesting that the KX250 has exactly 10 horses more than a Dynojet'd KLX300.

Horse power is what it is. If you loose 1500 rpm off the top, you loose horse power along with it.
I use everything that is there.
Perhaps we should all ride big american made V twins.
I wish my bike was as two stroke!
We are just different using our bikes for different purpose. I ride the street only. I know at what my speed my bikes hit the rev limiter in each gear.
My old BMW uses the intake valve as the rev limiter Exceed the max RPM (about 7500) and it bends the valve. Been there done that when I missed a shift.

Top end? Really, these are 250s (or 351s) And I never feel the need to take her past 9k which it pulls right up too. Top End , you are funny.

I think I have that same bike lift and its gonna get the same mod now that I have been inspired by your photo. I kept thinking I got to decide exactly how I want to make this thing fit the KLX better but not really getting around to it.
Cheers & Thanks

David,
Looking at the dyno charts from the original post on a 250 you actually gain on top and your power peak moves up a few hundred rpm. So no worries about losing 1500 off the top. My other bikes are a ZRX1200, YZ250 and KDX200. The KLX was purchased for my wife as she recently got her motorcycle license. The cam mod was the last in a long line of mods and now the bike doesn't seem like the red fendered step child it once was. It actually goes pretty good and I am very satisfied with the results.
