outside of the suspension and the shorter 6th gearwhat has really changed? they did nothing to get more power (which is the one area they should have adressed). i'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the 08/09 is no better. +/- say 5%.
i'dlike to see it be a better bike for all the guys who waited but i just don't see it happening.

Well...I put about 140 km on my 09 today. Did a mixture of gravel/dirt logging roads and road riding.
The weather was great, but a little windy at times. There were still some snow patches on a couple of the dirt roads, and some obligitory puddles to ride through. Since it was my first "real" ride, I was enjoying myself too much to take any pictures...and my camera was just sitting there in my pocket the whole time!
I plan on going out again tomorrow, perhaps to some local hot springs via a 50 km logging road. I'll try really hard to stop riding and take some pictures...What's the best/easiest way to upload pictures into a post??
As far as the 09 being any different, I have no idea. I never rode the older model KLX's and this is my first bike! I can understand people's comments on the "underpowered-ness" of it, though. It accelerates smoothly, but it's definitely not a torquey monster. My friend's XR650L is an entirely different beast! For my purposes, though, it's just fine....Fun on the dirt roads and cruisy on the highway....and light enough to pick up when you (I) drop it...

I agree with you CMG,it's fun for what it was intended to be,an around town cruiser that you can take on any dirtroad that catches your eye.I enjoy mine around the beach in the summer

It buzzes ok on the highway too but the cross winds and semi's push you around easy.I tried mine on a mountain ride last yr with my buddies and they had to wait for me often, they all had strictly street bikes and had the power to accelerate up the hills[&o].I still had a blast though and took a few side trails when we stopped

Yes...I've definitely been blasted by a couple of semi trucks so far...and with only 2 days on the bike! Maybe down the road (like this summer) I'll start looking into opening it up a bit. We'll see what Mr. Pocketbook says
