Hey guys, those temp gages are more expensive that the whole Trailtech Vapor ($100) which has temperature sensing plus whole lot more:

Our bikes want the KLX300 kit which is 75-501. When I ordered mine they accidentally sent the XR650 kit, but the only difference was the size of the speedo sensor. They offered to send me a new sensor, but they one they sent works fine so I didn't bother with it.

You're right. But I'm just not ready to ditch the stock gauges. I just wanted to add a small temp gauge. But I have to admit that is one nice looking unit. Does the Speedometer cable just screw right into the back? Is it a pretty straight forward installation?

You can keep your stock gages if you like, it was a personal choice on my part to remove mine, you don't have to. The Vapor doesn't use the stock speedo cable so if install the Vapor, you don't lose your stock speedo. The Vapor uses a strong neodymium magnet that inserts into one of the holes on the front brake rotor and has a sensor than runs down the brake line and I fastened mine onto the white shock guard plastic. As the magnet passes be the sensor it sends a pulse to the unit to calculate speed and distance. You adjust it by keying in your front tire size so it knows the distance travelled for each tire revolution.
The temperature sensor actually is inserted into your coolant flow. You need to cut about a 1 inch section out of your coolant line, then insert the supplied coupling with the sensor imbedded in it. You can choose which side you want the sensor - the hot side with coolant flowing from engine to radiator, or the cool side with coolant flowing from radiator to engine. I put mine on the hot side. I think it would be neat to have two sensors, one in each location, so you could see the effectiveness of your radiators.
I thought it was easy to install. But if _all_ you want is the temp gage, then I'd just get that. If you want some extra features, something like the Vapor works well, but will take up a bit more mounting room on your handlebar.

I'm wanting to buy a $70 sheepskin too!

No problems at all. Note that the overtemp warning LEDs won't come on unless you wire its power source into your bike's battery power. It has a coin battery that lasts a long time, I think the manual said about a year, but it doesn't power the LEDs, just the LCD display. Wiring into the bike's battery power is optional.
