Couple of things. I broke mine as well and had a guy weld it back on for me. It took him 2 minutes and it cost me $60.00 That's the last time I take anything to a shop for welding. At that price I am going to look for a small wire feed welder and start my own side business. The reason mine broke, is that when I removed the stock ones I bent the tabs up to get them out of the way and out of sight. When I installed my stocks back on I had to bend the tabs back, and I felt one of them start to give. Once when I was out in the woods taking pictures, my bike fell over and that finished it.

When I installed those small lights on my bike and took off the stock ones, while it looked more streamlined, and "cool" it soon became apparent that function won over form. Here are a couple of pics of the difference between stock and those little lights.

 

Yeah, you totally got hosed. For a MIG welder, to weld that tiny tab on... thats not even a real job. Its something you bring in real quick, the guy stops what he's doing and just runs a bead across it real quick. Its one of those jobs where after your done you say "how much do I owe you" and the guy shrugs and says "...give me $5 bucks (maybe $10)" $60, that is just.......highway robbery.

Its harder than it looks though. If you want to gain the ability to do any job, and I do mean any job thrown at you and do it properly and with the confidence theres no way your welds will break, that takes alot of time in training and practice. I'm a former professional welder myself. For a job working for someone else it blows, working for yourself is alright, but it takes the fun out of it eventually. Doing it once in a while for a hobby just when you need it, like I do now, makes welding fun again.

 

I almost got certified on wire feed a few years ago, its no big deal, I've been welding since I was 9. And yes I know I got hosed. Thanks for the reminder........

 

For around $100 I picked up a brand new 140amp stick welder.
First job was to re-weld the side stand when I cut it down after lowering the suspension.
I hadn't done any welding since high school so I was bit rusty.
An hour on a few scraps and "bingo" I was back in town.
It's been great having it just there when I need it.
