BROKEN CAM CHAIN, Stroker kit?? 450F??
Hello all, recently I had the unfortunate event of a timing chain failure (the **** f'in broke). I have a 2010 KLX250s, AWESOME bike. The bike now has 36,540 miles. Upon disassembly I found that the chain broke a tooth off the crankshaft (ohh hooray). I really dont want to spend $550 for a new one, but I wouldnt mind spending that on a stroker kit. I plan on doing the Bill Blue 351 big bore with carb and cams, since I need to replace the crankshaft/rod I figured I might as well stroke it too. I have been online looking for eaither a kit that I can buy, or even to send it out to someone. I cant really find much on that. My other idea was to just buy a KX450F engine and stuff that into the KLX frame. Does anyone know if there is a stroker kit available for these? Or should I just go for the 450F?

Why not just sell your KLX and buy a used KX450F then get the light kit for it, plate it and have an awesome, lighter, competion level bike with better suspension and all. Quite a few guys around me have done this with more than awesome results. Fitting that KX engine in a KLX isn't just a bolt in deal anyway. You still need to figure out how to hookup lights, brake switches, etc. It's not an easy swap. More work than you may think for the same bike with a hot motor. Just sayin.

Yeaa, I was thinking about the engine swap today, decided thats not the way im gonna go. I know its not a bolt in deal I dont care about that, I have my own TIG welder and I can make what ever mods needed. I was thinking about all the electrical crap. And yes, its much more than its worth. Theres a couple reasons I dont want a KX450F, first off im short. I can barley touch the ground with one toe on the KLX, I know the actual size of the KXF will be way too big. Plus im a 2 stroke guy, if I buy a motocross bike its goning to be a KX no questions about it, which I already have. I think Im just going to rebuild the KLX engine and make a beast out of it. I did find someone on here that did a 365 stroker with other mods close to what I'm planning. I would have to send the engine California, but if thats what it takes then so be it.

And when done, your KLX engine , it'll be capable of doing anything - I like the idea of going full sport adventure with a KLX - TCI windshield, PMI guards and saddle bags, sprockets a little toward highway cruising etc..
