Default Broken cam chain, broken decomp

I've got a broken auto decompression gizmo and cam chain.

Not sure what would have caused this was running ok then all of a sudden the bike had no compression. Is it normal for the chain to break? Or is it more likely the auto decompression broke in two jamming the cam and snapping the chain?

It's a 1994 klx 250r. Going to be getting a 350 jug for it need to make sure I get everything to put her back together right.

On that note. Anyone have an exhaust cam to sell since mines in rough shape?

Ouch!, OP, that's unfortunate. I know this is just a one pic shot you have there, but does it look like a lot of heat involved on that camshaft? What does the head look like at the bearing surfaces?

Here is a handful more photos showing the extent of the damage. I have been a bit busy so didn't really fully look until today.

The bearings in the head look torched to me... not sure what everyone else thinks. Still not sure what caused the failure. I also uploaded a shot of the cam chain guide incase it looks suspect to you guys.

Let me know what you think!

There is a reason why you had all these problems including your journals are toast. You'll need a new head, IMO.
If the bike had oil in it, check the oil pump & oil passages, also any place in the system that would cause the oil to escape the system and cause low oil pressure.
Maybe your rod is shot and allowed too much oil to pass.

I will check. I think my rings may also have been shot. The piston got water in it from sitting for two years. Was a bit rusty threw some oil down the hole and kicked her over until it felt free. Ran ok but I figured it was going to bite me. Didn't have time or money to deal with it then. Wasn't worrying because I intended to go to a 350 anyways.

What will be shot on my rod? Bent? Bad bearings?

I figured a new head was necessary when I looked at the bearings closer. They really are pooched.

How did your piston get water in it?
If your oil had water in it, that could be a problem.

I left it outside for two years in BC. Water gets in everything!

Looking at the pictures you posted, it does look like there is water on top of the tappets and other areas. I would never leave my bike outside, except if traveling, but I still don't see how water could get in the engine. You should probably move.~

Living in BC is worth dealing with a bit of rain. I left the bike outside unused for almost two years. I'm sure the water rolled off the top of the tank into the spark plug hole.
