Default Broke it BAD!

I was riding on a deep rutted trail and smacked my coolant pump on a root, it fell into 3 pecies and most of the impeller is busted. All my coolant leaked out right away and the engine stopped on its own. Im hoping the engine didnt sease up but im guessing since it stop on its own before i could hit the kill switch that it did. So if any one has a bike they are parting out let me know. Also does anyone know if KLX300 parts would fit, im hoping all I need is the water pump and radiator hoses.

The bike might have stalled from the high engine temps having an effect on the mixture, or the added friction caused it to stall, but not completely seize. I'm just trying to be optomistic. It probably depends on how hot the engine was before you broke the pump.

Hopefully you can just replace hte impeller, impeller shaft and housing and she fires right up. After you remove all the broken impeller bits, try just turning over the engine with the spark plug disconnected to see if it stillturns.

I seriously doubt the engine would sieze so fast. More likely the impeller jammed or something and stalled the engine. Isn't it driven off the drive shaft? Bummer still. The hard part will be finding all those impeller bits. All that should be under the right side cover, though, so hopefully you won't have to split it open.

Damn man, that sucks!

I've wondered about the durability of that pump and hoses hanging out down there. Makes me think one of these might be a worthy investment.

It's not clear if you continued riding UNTIL the engine stopped, and that's how you found out about the broken water pump..??
Or did you know right away? If you rode it until it stopped, then yes, you might have a seized motor. [:-] Ouch.

My main concern would be getting any little metal particals outof the engine before putting it all back together. It sounds like it stalled right after the impeller broke so I bet the engine is okay.
