I had a flatland racing skid plate, but it didn't have the 'ears' on the sides, so when I bought the 2009 KLX250S for my son (with no skid plate), I moved my flatland to it and bought a Emperor Racing one for my KLX250s. The emperor skid plate is a very nice one, and as mentioned above tough as nails.

Yes, I saw that and had a good laugh. As ^ said, probably a lot of irons in the fire. He did answer a question specific to the plate.
It looks like the Ricochet with a bunch of holes drilled in it. A little lighter, and a lot more places to collect up the mud.

You will want the 'wings', they protect the most vulnerable component.... the water pump. If that gets knocked out, you are done. And alone, way out in no where's, probably in a ditch.
