DAKARs are cool bikes. I've seen a few of them in Japan. I would put one of those in my stable WAY before the big, porky GS1150. The Dakars actually look pretty badazz up close. I think I would have to go for a Husaberg first though.

Nice find! I read Charlie's book, "Race to Dakar" where he, Simon, and another fellow raced in the Dakar. It was very entertaining. Simon is the man!

i'm definately diggin' that bike too. my wife caught me looking at that new european only yamaha tenere adventure bike and told me don't even think about it. i think it's an 850. whatever it is, it's really doing it for me. thank goodness it's not gonna be for the usa, or i would have to sell all of her stuff and get one.

Nobrakes,
Iwatched the Dakar race on television, Charlie had a series on after doing the Long Way Around trip with Ewen McGregor..it may be on again sometime..so watch for it. Really cool, especially liked watching the huge trucks.

The Dakar is just a fantastic race. 5000 miles and over two weeks long. Speed had daily coverage of it last year and their coverage didn't suck horribly, though I wish they went more in depth with the bikes, that's what I care about most. But it was pretty cool seeing Robby Gordan and his Hummer and all the cr*p that can go wrong. He got stuck in one place and a convinced a backhoe operator to pull him out.

This year keep an eye on Jonah Street - Team Rally Panam - http://www.rallypanam.com . Jonah finished 2nd overall in the Baja 1000 last week beating KTM factory rider Cyril Despres who won the Dakar last year. Jonah will be on one of the new KTM 690's:

Too rich and exotic for my blood. I still miss my old Honda XR650 and eating dirt down in Baja! Too bad it's getting so damn dangerous to ride down there. Mike "Mouse" McCoy is the MAN!
