Hmnnn... looks like a much more aggressive suspension setup. Especially in the rear.

FWIW: I am 37 and looking to get another 2 wheeler. I have not had my own bike for about 15 years. I rode the crap out of a CR125 when I was a kid and spent most of my childhood in the dirt. My last bike was a POS KDX200 that I called "the clacker" because when it landed it sounded like the frame was going to come apart.

My 10 year old has a KLX110 and I am ready to start riding with him instead of watching. I don't know how crazy I will get now that I understand fear and pain as an adult. Unlike when I was 16.

I also have a pimp Yamaha Rhino which has been the chase vehicle for awhile.

Just not sure if I want this DS or if I should get more of a race bike, like a CRF250(R or X) or something?

Thoughts?
i have an 09 KLX250. i'm 5'10", 150lbs. My bike wants to bottom out on the medium/hard landings. front more than rear. You will probably need to change front and rear suspension, if you want to get any air on this bike.

Not to dog on the KLX, but I would warn you that the bike is underpowered and kinda heavy for it's size. It's no race bike, but they are bulletproof, tough bikes.
Try and take one for a test ride before you pull the trigger.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know. I got a quote for $4990.00 OTD for the KLX

I am also looking at a super clean 2003 KX125 for $1500.00 (friends bike). A lot less for a nice bike, but I wanted to do a 4 stroke. Decisions.....

Would be nice to be able to roll on the streets though.....

Welcome to the forum first.

But bro....you are comparing apples and oranges. If you are EVEN CONSIDERING a kx125.....a klx250 is not the bike for you, especially a new one. Just trust me on that opine.

Now if you want a performance bike, that's street legal consider a used ktm smoker....it will not like asphalt, but it will do it.

I don't recall your weight or height, if you even posted it.....but it sounds like a used 200/250/300 xc-w with a street title is what you are looking for....like this.

Now if you want a lil dual purpose bike to play around with your boy and chug along the street and trails anywhere with no maintenance a klx may be for you....new springs and mods are required.

If you decide the latter....take a serious look at used klx's...the motor is bullet proof.....Best of luck, regardless what you decide.

Apples to oranges in every way...I know.

I am 5'9". 170lbs.

That is why I came here and I thank you for all the opinions. It helps a lot. Been out of the 2 wheel biz for way too long. And not sure how deep I want to jump back in.

Might go searching for one of them orange bikes now...

You only need to go orange, if you really need a tag....if not a 03 kx125 for $1.5k is cheap and easy to resell for close to what you paid ..... that's what I would get and ride it for a few months....who knows you may want a klx after kicking that sucker all time.

NICE looking bike. So only 6 used KLXs in all of the country on cycletrader.com

The KLX might be a better all-around bike. But $1500 vs. $5k is what I am struggling with right now..... or something in-between.

And those orange bikes are roughly $7k used! Too much for me.
