bike fail to start with EJK
hi,
today i started the bike when cold, ran perfect. once hot after a short ride, it was not starting. starter spining yet engine not starting.
i thought its spark or clogged hose problem. changed plug, nothing changed very hard to start. if you leave the bike for 5 mins then try start it may start sometimes. after many attempts, i disconnected the ejk controller and let the bike run normally. it runs fine.
so its something the the controller..
checked settings, they are like default and never changed.
when bike runs with controller on idle its on 3 green light.
basically without the controller starts fine. with it making problems
what can be done?

I have had Various EJK's on my bike. 250, 300 and now 331.
Each time bike would not start it turned out to be bad/dry contacts at the ECU, not the fuel controller. The bad contacts cause weak spark, hard starting and spluttering performance. However that being said, if you have cleaned all contacts ( use a contact cleaning spray ) and the only way it will run is without the EJK, then you need to send the unit back to Matt at Dobek.
They will fix or replace it.

Thanks for the reply. Without the ejk its much easier to start
But when hot it still sometimes fails to start untill i wait a minute..
Never were like this
What can cause it?
Ill also check the connectors as u said and reply if it helps
Whats strange is that when cold or after i wait abit it starts perfect

If it still starts and runs with the EJK, then your settings are probably slightly out if it is only a hot starting issue.
What is your bike? 250? What mods? Which EJK do you have? There have been some changes to the first models.
Have you made any adjustments to the fuel settings?
Have you checked the tutorials on the Dobeck site.

Checked tutorial, mods are o2 sensor disable, remove shnorkel and an open muffler. Also cam chain tensioner (manual)
Settings are the same as default but is there a way to modify the start up fuel setting? Cause green is from specific rpm..
Now tested without, still abit hard when warm but runs eventually after 1 min
Normal ejk , non big bore

I checked my bike. On idle it is running only 1 green light. It sounds like you are over fueling on start up and idle.
Have you tried turning down the green setting. If you go all the way down to 0.5 on Green, that is your bikes original setting without EJK influence.
What is your green set to now?

thanks for your reply. it does seem my bike running too rich. especially when the snorkel removed and this known to be a lean running one.
im not sure how the idle setting works. from what i understand tuning the green is the fuel on cruising and not idle and the green blue is what rpm green runs in.. so how to i tune how much fueling is on idle?

Please check your settings for green yellow and red and write them down.
Then check green blue, yellow blue and red blue. Write these down.
Then send them to me so I can advise you where to start.

You are correct, those are the recommended base settings. A couple of things you failed to mention. Did the EJK work previously? Have you tried different settings?
What concerns me is that it is showing 3 green lights on idle, this many green normally only shows up under fast cruising.
Try turning down green and yellow down to .5 and see if that makes any difference.
I would also consider sending the unit back to Dobeck for reprogramming if you live in USA or at least e mail them for advice. Due to the fact that you are still at 250 cc means that you can go back to stock and remove the EJK for repairs.
