Bike dies after 7 miles, checked everything, need help....?????

Man...electrical gremlins...especially ignition/charging issues...nothing more fun. Werloc, on your coil test did you do the continuity/resistance tests in the manual or did you also get to do the "load" test on one of those devices that allows you to open an adjustable spark gap under battery power? Obviously almost no one personally has one of those, but most shops that have one will almost always test a coil for you. In some cases I've found it to be the only way to test a defective coil when the static continuity/resistance tests show OK...or swapping parts. Glad you figured it out. Your methods of diagnosis were logical and focused. Good job.

TNC, I only did the static tests as per manual. The coil had no reading on the primary side, so I went out and found a used one cheap enough on ebay. When I got that, I did the same test and got the same results. Hmm, so I thought I'd just return that coil to seller for a refund. Then after a few more days not finding the issue with bike, I figured why not just try this coil I bought for the hell of it. Glad I did, because that was it. After looking more into that no reading I got, turns out, the test shown in manual is wrong. But since that coil sits in a hot spot, just above head, and right behind radiator, it just made sence to me to just try the new one. So really I can't take much credit, it was more just dumb luck....LOL Lord knows, I sure did put my time into going over every inch of every wire, and all electrical componants, and took apart every connection plug, cleaning, etc. I paid my dues.....lol And paid off, by accident.

The problem with testing, coils, condensors, circuit boards, is some fail when heated. When they are cool they have continuity (or not), and then when heated everything expands and something looses connections.
With other bikes u can could carry a spare plug in your pocket, pull the plug wire and test the system just after it dies. On these it would be very difficult to get at the plug wire.
