Big favor to ask....
Maybe i'm one of the few that buys a bike and rides it but has never done any mods...BUT want to....here is an example:
"3.) Slide vent hole drilled out to 7/64ths. NO COST MOD!"
I think Tony did this one.
Surlely this is something I could wet my feet on....or the one where the screw is backed out 2.5 turns......what screw and where!
My favor I'm asking for is any pics of any of these projects...I dont think the Kaw dealer is going to drill through the first baffle of the muffler for me and I dont know where the slive vent hole is, and so on.
Any help/pics would be appreciated.
Robert

I would just buy the dyno jet kit for the klx 300r its under $70 and it has pretty detailed instructions. Or you can hold on till I install mine when ever it gets here and I'll post all my results. And the screw is the mixture screw and its on the bottom of the carb, be sure to lightly seat it first then turn it out 2.5. And it really doesn't do much good if you haven't re-jetted your carb.
klx 300r Dyno kit includes:
- main jets, 120, 124, 128, 132
- fuel needle
- e-clips
- slide drill bit #32
- Pretty detailed instructions
the first time I ever messed with a carb I used a dyno jet kit on a 88' honda cbr 600 hurricane and i found the instructions to be easy enough to follow.

The slide vent hole is an easy one: Just remove the four screws on the top of the carb. NOTE: Be careful when doing so as they strip easily AND once the last one is out, the top may pop off as there is a spring underneath.
Next GENTLY remove the cap and spring and then stick your finger down the hole. This is the slide. It's attached to the soft black rubber diaphram you'll see when you remove the cap. BE CAREFUL as this diaphram can be dammaged by rough handling and then it's toast.
Pull the slide up with your finger and remove it and the diaphram. Be careful as the needle and holder are down in the slide.
Take the slide to your bench and dump out the needle and holder. Remember how they look coming out so you get them back in correctly.
Turn the slide/diaphram upside down and look at the bottom. There are two holes. The center hole is for the needle. The off-center hole is the slide vent. This is the one you want to drill out to 7/64ths. Be VERY CAREFUL and ensure you don't over do it. Also make sure there are no little pieces of plastic slide material left clining to the edges of the hole and that you remove all the pieces from inside the slide.
Now would be the time to add two 0.5mm shims (they look like small washers) to the needle if you want (or better yet, install the pre-'06 KLX300R needle part number 16009-1912 Description: NEEDLE-JET,N1TC).
Here's a picture that may help:
Another easy fix is to adjust the pilot air mixture screw. This screw is hidden beneath a plug on the lower front edge of the float bowl (bottom of the carb). You need to drill a small hole in the plug and then use a pick or sheet metal screw to remove it. Once the plug is out, simply turn the mixture screw all the way in (counting turns as you go so you'll know where the factory set it). DO NOT use too much force to screw it in. Once it stops, don't force it any farther. Back it out 2.5 turns and then go for a ride. Once the engine is warm, you may have to adjust your idle using the knowb below the choke.

RE: Big favor to ask....
I opened up my 2004 TTR 255 last year and the following pics show how I accessed the fuel screw, I know it’s not the same bike, but it’s essentially the same process for you. Hope they help!
The red arrow shows the cap/plug over the fuel screw:
I drilled into the plug with an 1/8" bit about a quarter inch:
Then I grabbed a screw and turned it in a little bit:
Grab and gently work it out:
