Big Bore reliability issues

Big Bore reliability issues
Does the Big bore kits cause reliability issues. i am refering to the 300cc kit that is taken from a KLX300's top end, if i am correct. I know it will cause reliabilty probs with sport quads but from what i understand the KLX engine is just a tapered down KLX300 engine. is this correct or am i hoplessly off track?

RE: Big Bore reliability issues
I really do not see it as an issue, even one of reliabiltiy.
As was stated, they're genuine Kawasaki parts, unmodified. All you are doing is putting the 292 cc cylinder, piston, piston rings and piston pin onto a motor that is the same as the 292 cc displacement KLX300R. The downsizing was probably for emissions requirements.
I'm planning on going that route, Finger Mullet is already there. Nobrakes has already gone to the next level - 331 cc displacement.
Once Christmas is over, I intend to order the parts. Not sure at this time if it will be 292 or 331 that I'm going for. Probably 331 as there needs to be more than one big bore ***** here! [sm=burnout.gif]

What about the counter balancer they talk about for a smooth ride. Iam not a mechanic , but iam guessing it is the counter weight to the piston. Would the counter balancer have to be increased for a 300or a 331. I like the idea of a smoother and reliable ride.

RE: Big Bore reliability issues
Changed:
The same counterbalancer, PN 130-0001,is used onboth the klx300 andklx 250. Riders with the 331 have reported increased vibration, though I'm not sure how much. I would guess that is due to the 331 kit not usinga stock Kawasaki piston. You might be able to get whoeverdoes the overbore to match the piston weights, if vibration isthat much of an issue.

RE: Big Bore reliability issues
Hopefully the counterbalancer will help to offset that.

I can't say I've noticed an increase in vibration. I'm sure there's more, but it's not dramatic. Only time will tell w/regard to reliability.
