+1 on the Q-0 needle jet on the TM34 (a bored out TM33-8012) and a big bore. That's what I'm currently running. Same here, looked all over for an alternate needle and none to be found. ....except some fellow was turning his own for a XT225: http://www.xt225.com/projects/mikuni.htm

That is the only strange thing about this carb. It will go lean when turning the pilot screw to 1/2 turn out (with the 17.5 pilot jet), but you can't make it stumble rich. Even with the 20 pilot jet (which is 3 sizes larger than stock), you can't make it stumble rich. To set mine, I turned the pilot screw in until it stumbled lean, then turned it out incrementally until it stopped backfiringon deceleration. That just happened to be 2 turns out.
