Big Bore Bliss

If I remember right, there has been a custom CDI put out on the market for the 06-07 which allows you to program your own maps!

Not so much the wet sleeve thing. Just seems to me that without porting the head, buying cams and carb that the 351 is more of a low to mid rpm motor. The project 351sm thread shows good results with all of the above. I did not want to go that far. I also put the intake cam to stock specs, as it is known that the big bore does not like advance on the cam. I left the ex cam ret. In place as that would have required acr retiming and I wanted to see how it ran like that. I will ride a while to get a feel for the bike and then put the ex cam to stock for comparison. I look forward to the dyno charts that ZrexRich has showing stock/351,fmf,stock carb/351,fmf,BillB carb.

I don't even know how many miles I have on my 351, but it's a lot. hahaa.. My speedo cable snapped three times so a lot of miles not logged. I have like 3700 on the ticker now, got the 351 at 1k. I wouldn't be surprised if actual milage is more like 7k, I was unemployed for two years and rode almost daily with friends. That whole time about 95% was un-metered. I have no idea, but I don't hesitate to take the bike anywhere. It's very reliable so far!

Glad to hear of your trouble free miles Larry. I am a big fan of your videos, thanks for sharing them. On your carb did you drill your slide? Or did your kit have the spring? I am thinking of putting the stock spring back and drilling the slide 7/64. Your throttle response seems good in your videos so I thought I would ask. I have the DJ kit for the 09 and the response is not great, not bad but not great. It seams a CV carb would benefit more from a larger opening than a lighter spring. The spring also helps close the slide so weaker seems like a bad idea.

The 331 is running like a champ. Has anyone tried drilling the slide instead of using the DJ spring. Many threads on CV tuning say drilling the slide makes it much more responsive. I will get to it sometime this week. I would like a little more response without changing carbs.

Note: I ride mostly on KS highway and dirt roads, no hard trail riding, etc so your results may vary if you're a little more extreme.
