slimenlyman,

Did you find a lower chain guide that fits with the 53 tooth sprocket?

Sounds good, I LOVE my KLX 250 but I just cant see the point in spending any money on it. I just feel like it's not worth it, if you really want the extra power than why not just spend that extra money on the 450 KLX?? (you said you were a kawasaki fan, otherwise maybe something else)

Unless you really want the KLX 250 as a project, one of a kind bike then maybe I can see where your coming from but even still - I'd probably pick a bigger bore stock bike to begin with to start modifying. I feel like the klx 250 is meant to be a recreational dual sport so there are better frames out there to spend money on.

But sometimes life isn't all about money, and you just have to do what makes you feel happy. Every now and then that just happens to be having the most bad *** klx 250 on the block

If the KLX 450 was street legal, this would be the KLX450 forum.

RE chain guard, made temp adaptor to clear.Had to lower and move forward, transfer tosheet, fab up a new cover plate and reinstall. I do like the klx 450 if it was street legal that be sweet. Sometimes you can get it converted and on the road. But if you're to buy one and spend that extra and not been able to get it on the road that would hurt. A KTM dealer said it was hit and miss with a off-roadbike getting it on the road. I like doing something different. Hearing stories of did you see that 250 eat a 400. Or who's that middle aged fat kid ripping up the back roads. It's always easier to buy a build product but the enjoyment of building what you feel Kawaski should have sold ya. I guess I'll unleash the monster. I can feelhow adjusting this and that has made performance better(lid off, slip-on, dyno jet kit, k&n and regearing). So I'd like to go deeper. I figure if you're going to pull down the engine I'd like to do it right once. Besides I change oil more than enough and I don't plan on driving it to the maximum all the time justmust of it. Maybe I'll go with a tm 36-68 but with my gearing and how I like to ride the cam specs of the webcamshaft race only makes my blood boil. It has a good lift with lots of duration @.050.

Thanks for the feed back but I'm going to try to giver has much kick as I can...

In my purely subjective assessment of what the mods did for my bike, here's what you might expect (no cams, sorry):

"Grapevine Mods" are the usual airbox, carb rejet, drill stock exhaust.

BTW, I ran stock gearing, preferring that over the buzzy 13:45 that a lot of people like so much. I always felt that 13:45 shifted the gearing down one gear so stock 6th gear became like the stock 5th gear after the change. IMO, why not keep the stock gearing and just shift down to 5th if when you want and retain 6th as the overdrive gear? Anyway, to each their own. I'm definitely in the minority on the gearing thing.

I ride with a guy (when we take the desert big-bores out that has a KLX450R, it's a nice bike (not quite the power of my CR500 though) but it is definitely not suited for the road by any means. It runs out of gearing pretty fast when all out, it’s very thirsty and a handful at times.
I looked into getting a 450 several months back (the local dealer will install a street legal kit on damn near anything and register for you) but he advised against it and let me take one for a spin afterward I agreed.
The primary reason for me to want the 450 is for the extra speed but the bike is so light that 70mph takes more concentration on it then the 250.
