Default Best Websites for Tires

Okay folks, from what I have gathered in all of the tire posts, these are some of the better places to buy tires. For each I have included a comments or two about what I have learned about each one. I have not personally dealt with any of them for tires. I have purchased stuff from Dennis Kirk, just not tires.

I am hoping that anyone with personal experience with these or other sites can weigh in and I will update the comments for each site accordingly. The idea is to end up with a single thread that has a number of links and comments for people that want to begin shopping for tires. In addition to anecdotal experience, please include any information that you might have about shipping, restocking, etc.

www.denniskirk.com
* Solid company
* Free shipping if order exceed $100

www.rockymountainatv.com
* I have heard good things about this company, but don't have any personal info
* I think a lot of folks on this forum get tires from here
* UPDATE - Free shipping on orders over $100

www.americanmototire.com
* Good info on tires
* Others have posted on this forum that their communication is poor and they will cancel your order without notice.
* I think a lot of people have also had good experiences with them

www.tiresunlimited.com
* Worth calling directly.
* Their site is not 100% up-to-date
* Got a great deal on a closeout C858 5.10-18

ADDED - Southwest Moto Tires
* Limited dual sport offering
* Free shipping with purchase of two tires

Thanks for your participation.

Good idea, cwgoff. Note that http://www.rockymountainatv.com also has free shipping on orders $100 and over. I've ordered tires from both http://www.rockymountainatv.com as well as http://www.americanmototire.com and of those two, I recommend the former pretty decisively.

Edit - unfortunate typo with your screen name, cwgoff - sorry, fixed.

I've bought tires from a few sites online.

My favorite was Discount Motorcycle Tires out of Denver. They had some internal problems and have gone out of business. The prices were right and the shipping always punctual. It was my favorite.

Another place I have gone to and think highly of is Southwest Moto Tires. Unfortunately, their dualsport product line is not as extensive as I would like. Their shipping is free with the purchase of two tires.

The place I deal with regularly is American Motorcycle Tire. My reason is that they have all the brands I'm interested in. They also have most of the tools you will need, wheel weights, balancers, tire irons, bead breakers, rim locks, spoke wrenches, tubes, rim protectors, etc. To me, it is a one stop shopping center for motorcycle tires. In the past year, I have probably ordered about 15 tires from them. (I tend to order 1 front and 2 rears each time I order) During that time, I have never had a problem with slow delivery, customer service problems nor any other issues. I also find their prices (to my door price) to be lower than most other dealers.

Of course, this is simply my opinion.

Brian, no worries on the typo. I get a lot of that both intentional and unintentional.

Dennis Kirk will also price match + $1.

The price of the competitor does include the price of item, freight, handling and any other charges. If the competitor's price is still lower than Dennis Kirks' we will "Beat It By A Buck."
I have bought quite a bit of stuff from them, including tires, but never at full price. I have always have good service from them.

After hearing all of the good press on RockyMountainATV I am wanting to order from there, but they are not carrying the C858, which is the tire I am buying next. I thought I noticed it on their site like a week ago, but now it is not there. By "not there" I mean it is not listed at all. Not just "out of stock".

Hopefully they are just out of stock and actually remove the item from their page if they are out. I doubt it, but I am hoping that is the case.

Actually, the size I want in my rear tire is also out of stock at DennisKirk.com. I am wanting to get the 5.10x18 in the C858.

Well, as long as the tires are in stock, http://www.americanmototire.com works fine. The problem I ran into with them was that one item of a multi-item order was out of stock and they canceled my entire order and the only notification was an e-mail. However, the e-mail went into my spam filter and I didn't see it. So when I didn't get the tire for a while and I e-mailed about it, that's when I was informated of the cancellation. Once in more direct e-mail contact exchange, the transaction was smooth after that, though it set back my getting the items by about a week or two.

I personally like http://www.americanmototire.com the best for selecting the tire I want since they have good selection and categorization of their tires so that it is easy to find DOT legal tires. This can be more of a challenge at other places that don't readily identify the whole dual sport tire category.

So I wouldn't have any reservations about ordering from amt, just be wary of out of stock items.
