Best tyres for KLX250s (2009)
Some help,
Bought a used 2009 KLX 250s. Not quite at the point of getting new tires, although I thought I'd check in on forum's collective wisdom. I drive 80 on tar ( as you down under folk would say) and 20 dirt. The bike has had Dunlop D605's a tire not available in the US. Any thoughts?

Hmmm...of the one's I've actually used, I'd recommend Kenda 270's. They are a bit squirrelly on turns on the pavement, especially before they get scrubbed in, but, they get decent mileage, and do well off-road in the desert. If you are riding in mud or soft dirt, perhaps there are better choices.
If all you do on the 20% off-road is very easy riding, perhaps a more street-oriented tire would be even better. Oh, Kenda 270's are relatively inexpensive compared to many of the others.
I have a stock 605 front with 60 miles on it that I'd be happy to sell someone...but, the shipping will probably not be worth it to anybody. It's way too street-oriented for how I ride this bike.

I ride about 70% street and 30% dirt. I am
using the Metzler Enduro 3

They are a bit pricey but perform on the street very well. When I take them off road I drop them to about 10psi. So far I have 2,500 miles on them and they show little wear.

I've had good luck with Kenda tires, for the price I don't think they can be beat. You can choose the K270 (50/50) and keep the dual sport/off road look, or the K761 (80/20) for more "streetability". I did find that it was easier to get them to slide on wet pavement than the stock Dunlop tires, so the compound on the Kenda's is definitely harder (which would explain the longer wear).
Good luck.
Good luck.

Not to hijack this thread but years ago I used to put full motocross *****, non DOT, on my dual sports. One time when it had just started to rain and I was riding very easy in a not sharp turn and both tires lost all traction and the bike sild off the road. I was very lucky I didn't eat it right there and then but I kept it up and when I hit the gravel shoulder it caught and I was able to gain control and crawl home. After that I always run a DOT enduro style tire, I've used several brands and never had that happen again.

Shinko makes a pretty decent dual sport tire too. I ran them on my KLR last year.
