Bars, how much higher without new cables?

I want to make the bike a little more dirt-worthy this season. Stock bars are too low for me when standing. Ideally I'd want to go about 2 inches higher. I was thinking of getting some Protapers or Renthals in the CR Hi bend and with the adapters it looks like that would me what I want.
But what about the cables? I've been reading through all the handlebar threads but I'm more confused than when I started! If I have to buy bars, adapters, new cables and new brake line it's getting expensive. Oh yeah, handguards too - I'm thinking Acerbis Rally Pro. There's another $90...

I've got 2" Rox risers plus Tusk ATV High bend chubb bars with a 4.75" rise and I'm
still using the stock cables. I didn't really have to do any serious cable routing. So you can get them up there. I'm 6'1" plus and this is what it looks like:
and standing:
I'm actually going to drop down a bit with some lower bars and see how that feels.

Hmmm . . . in the balance I like it. It gives the bike a ridiculous amount of traction. It is tall and effects the handling by effectively steepening the head angle. I had an experience on a gravel road where the bike got seriously loose above 40 mph which I blamed on the tire. But when I aired it down (from 19 to 10 psi) it seemed to help. But I've had it on the freeway at top speed with no issues. I have since replaced it with a 120/18 Dunlop 606, which actually rolls into a turn better (and which is just as tall) but in my limited time with it doesn't seem to have near the traction. Figures. And the 606 leaves more of a tire mark so if you have a tread lightly ethic a trials tire is a good way to go.
So - it's good. Drop the pressure into the low teens (or less) for trail riding and have fun with it. After I spend some time with the 606 I may swap back. Or let the 606 wear out.

yea beleive it or not they give good traction.. ive done some gnarly deep sandy beach riding in the carribean with a trials tire on a DT125 (basically a YZ with lights and a horn) back in the late 90's) sick bikes down there.. no regulations like here..
