Default Banshee shifter on KLX

Like it said , I was out changing my oil and looking for a funnel I came across one of my Banshee shifters. Seeing it looked the same as the one on the KLX I took the stocker[some what bent]. I got it on after a few bends were put in it.

I looked but could not find the thread with the XR 650 shifter in it. So here is what I got done.

That's quite a bit longer than stock, (which is what some people want). Good to know there is another option out there.

Good to know there's another option. I checked the XR650L version from MSR on mine, and it is exactly that same length. I wonder what that one from Yamaha costs? The Malcolm Smith Racing version from Tucker/Rocky costs around $20.

I have one of these now. Took a little bending to get it to fit right. Before that, had elcheapo from fleabay and the thing bent like butter...stupid POS.

I also have the beefier MSR xr650L lever on my bike, but ever since I bent the internal pin that limits the shift fork travel, I have wondered if it's extra beefiness contributed to that bent pin. Just something to keep in mind. The MSR lever is still on my bike

I rode 125 miles on mostly FS roads, with lots of shifting [12/42] never missed one shift. The Banshee lever has some flex in it and I am not a stomp shifter. It will stay on.

I was not telling anyone to run out and buy a Banshee shift lever I just happened to have two of them with aftermarket shifters and found a stock one while looking for something else. KLX shifted smooth and solid. Most likely there are lots of other models/brands that will fit.

Does that wrench make it a heel & toe shifter?

I broke the end off of my shifter & installed a KLR aftermarket unit. It is longer like the banshee, but needs to be bent to conform a little bit more to the engine.

While standing I sometimes ghost shift with the stock shorter one, but being able to downshift without lifting my foot is good in a middle of a standing climb.

What are the advantages to having a longer shifter?

durielk, the longer shifter works with the moto boots better. dual sport boots are not quite as stiff and bulky.

just seen this this eve a little late eh. There is over 17500 miles on my KLX and the banshee shifter is still on it, altho I did weld a folding tip on it.
