No poisonous snakes, scorpions or big @$$ spiders; 3 of the top ten reasons I love western Washington. I can tolerate the drizzle, moss and occasional wolf spider (which is a fraction of the size of those creepy things). I don't miss Nebraska all that much when I remember the feeling of wondering if that was a Brown Recluse that just crawled out of my helmet and down my neck which seemed to happen at least once every year when I was growing up.

Do you have Hobo spiders there yet? Working their way your direction and often mistaken for the brown recluse. Nasty @$$ bastids anyway.

Affirmative on the Hobo spiders. This is the time of year when they are on the move looking for a mate before the end of the season or that's what I have heard. I put the little tent sticky pad traps in my garage in the corners and by the doors. I have some pieces of carpet and foam rubber that I lay on when working on the bikes if I don't put them on the rack. Can't get my BMW on the rack. Too heavy. Hobos seem to love the carpet samples. I read that they have a bit of venom but conflicting descriptions of the amount of damage it can cause. I don't mind the spiders. I love the garden spiders that are all is over the yard this time of year in Seattle. It's the things that can happen from the bite. I've heard of people losing arms and legs from brown recluse bites. Tarantulas are near harmless but creepy. I always checked my boots and gear before putting on when I lived in Nebraska. I still do but not with such regularity and now mostly for safety as I would check any PPE. Keep my helmet in the house but bagged it in the barn in Nebraska. But I don't live with my parents now so I can do a lot of things differently. If it weren't for my wife I would keep my 1970 Honda SL175 in the living room.

Those Hobo spiders can leave a nasty, necrotic wound. Bad stuff.

Ah thanks guys. I got all nostalgic there for the Alabama of my youth. Black widows, brown recluse, rattlers, copperheads, cottonmouths....good times. Of course my mother didn't appreciate me bringing 'em home. Good times....
