Looks like a hard lesson learned on insuring the skid plate bolts do not protrude.. Did I guess that right?

My advice is to try and not split the cases if at all possible. I've found them really hard to get apart without the right tools. And hard to get back together without leaks.

That's my biggest fear. I'm going for it though.

And well it was more a lesson of do not land on a boulder square on your skidplate. Unfortunately while I was flying I couldn't change my trajectory! Kind of a freak accident.

I was also thinking, while I'm here, I might as well install a kick-start, no? Going to research what is needed.

The heat gun (or propane torch) is your friend. Bearings that will not come out of the case will when you heat it. Locktite will let go at 200*f if its used.

The thermal expansion of aluminum is greater than steel, so heat it up and it comes apart. Same for re assembly.

I'm not going to remove bearings from the case, the manual says not to unless you plan on replacing the seals..
We'll see what happens.

Man this thing is one problem after the next! I just keep running into road blocks where I need certain tools. Last was the oil pump screws, and flywheel. Went and got an impact screwdriver for the OP screws - done. The flywheel holder I got one of those strap wrenches like somone posted in another thread - broke the thing trying to get the flywheel off. That nut is on there with the force of 1,000 oxen.

Now reading forward looks like I'll need a flywheel puller which I don't have.

On top of all that, there's still the chance I'll put something back in incorrectly, or I won't get the case halves sealed well enough, or any other host of possible issues. Then I'll be doing it all over again!!!

I'm so tempted to just buy a new bottom end for this thing!!!

I wonder what (anything?!) I could get for my bottom end with a hole in it? Or maybe better just parting it out.

This is turning into a doozy.

Good luck Larry, it's not something I would want to attempt. I would just throw money at it and buy a new bottom end...

Yes! That is the one that my trigger finger has been hovering over all day!

It seems too good to pass up. Just for peace of mind at least.. I just hope I'd be able to make a couple hundred back parting out my original one.

I guess it might depend on where you plan to offer it. You may have a chance in San Francisco........

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Ride on
