While it didn't get the same lifespan as what I've read from the 270's the Cheng Shin I had was a good 50/50 tire. Dirt cheap and it had a soft, gummy compound that really gripped the road well, wet or dry. In all terrain it was a better tire than the 603.
I ran the 4.60 but you can also get it in the 5.10. Either size is still $40-$50.
It faired well in NJ but I coudn't keep the front 603 under me

Having not owned either tire, from what I have read from reviews the King is mediocore, even for a budget tire. The Maxxis have a history of chunking, which is a shame because they make one of the best mountain bike tires on the market.
What kind of tire are you in the market for? 20/80, 50/50. 80/20...hardpack, sand mud? I finally settled on the Bridgestone Tw301 and 302 based on input from another member that is was an awesome 50/50 tire. Both tires have been hard to find instock at the same time so I'm researching the bstone ED03/ED04. My only concern is that as an 80/20 the highway ride probably sucks.

A couple of my buddies have the maxxis 6006, and they swear by them. They both say it's the best tire they ever put on their bikes. They both ride bigger bikes though. Ones a klr 650, and the other is a dr 650.

for a good 80/20 (on/off) tire for the rear check out the Dunlop trailmax D-607 for the rear. It is great on dirt roads and gravel and really good on hardpack. The front 607 is more sportsman class supermoto but the pair work great for me as i'm mainly a commuter bike at this point. For off road duties i slap on the TM-II's.
