I didn't realize those bikes made so much power- 50hp is pretty awesome. The power/weight ratio has to be better on that bike compared to the KLX250S. I do like the '06 and '07 KLR650's, but just can't get over the old style forks and smallish 17" rear wheel.

power to weight is probably about the same...I mean those things are tanks, drove my friends 2007 klr650 and I don't think I would leave the pavement with it, it was that wide and heavy. Now if you intended to use it for touring around on decent roads, it'd be great with that huge tank and all.

A KLR 650 puts out about 34 hp....a little more with pipe and jet mods ..... but not 50 hp. I've ridden a few, I likem for what they are.My adventure puts out a little over 50 hpand there is no comparison between the two, albeit my adv weighs a little less. Check the web, especially the adv site there's a bunch of KLR enthusiasts over there and they all say the same thing.
Here's a link to a guy modding his 04 KLR, IG you make like it he chose a Big Gun exhaust, obviously the best pipe in the world lol

yea.. i wanna get it for my road bike, daily driver. and occassional dirt, but nothing the klx gets into... thats why the klx is has aggressive tires and lower gearing, that bike would be my road bike, probably leave it how it is... its a 1995 or a 1996, i called the guy, it only has 2900 miles on it. It runs for almost a minute then it floods itself out... nothing a little carb cleaning wont fix... so hopefully ill go check it out soon.
