Hmmmm, don't you getlikean initial roll, then itlocks-up? Those lowergears -causing the engine to spin muchfaster- probably spinthe ACR fast enough toclose the exhaust valve.Otherwise the high compession alone shouldn't be a factor....interesting...to me that is[8D]

You can push start it, or roll start it but with 11 to 1 compression 3rd gear is preferable otherwise the rear wheel just locks, even on the road with road tyres. I had it lock all the way down a steep cement drive in 2nd trying to roll start mine, left a liquorice strap down my sisters drive lol

Update, after numerous calls to semi local dealers, I just need to preload the starter spring to generate the centrifugal force to disengage the ratchet gear........ So I'm offline to re-remove the right side and attempt this along with a couple Bass for sanity purposes.
Are you suresure centrifugal force is the issue here? I rememberthat lowering a kick start leverwhile the engine was running used to cause the same ratcheting noise you speak of, andbringing the lever all the way up made the noise go away.Looking at the ratchet, there appears to be aland on the cone shaped side that mightserve to cam theratchet apart once the kick lever is all the way up. Can the ratchet be installed in more than one postion?...or maybe thespring you speak ofisn't rotating theshaftfar enough clockwise toallow the ratchet to be cammed-out.

In any case, your answer will be educational for me[8D]

Cool!

I'd definitely like to tear one apart and see how it ticks. Looking at the drawing, I just cant see how centrifugal force would bring the ratchet apart, unless the splines are helical. I must be missing something.

Yup, problem fixed, preloading the spring solved everything.

you could just put a charger cable onto your bike. and then just get a charger and plug it into the wall a cheaper way atil works. just a thought.
