Anyone changed oil and filter lately?

Well oil doesn't appear or disappear in the system... some may get burned off during a change cycle of a month or two (about the longest I'll run mine).
I'll stick to Kawasaki's guideline of 1.4 liters with a filter change... I don't feel comfortable putting 30% less oil in than is called for in the service manual.
As for you overfilling it by .1 Liters for the first 3400 miles I doubt you hurt the motor. Shortening the oil level by 30%, however... IDK... I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing that but if you guys are cool with, that's cool

mines perfect full I add one quart then continue to fill it until its full. I cant say for sure the exact amount the bike takes because when I change the oil I use the 2nd quart I buy to finish filling it up and I havent measured whats left over. My bike just turned 10,000 miles.

First off, oil should be checked with the engine off. If it appears about the same in the window that's fine but no manual ever said to check oil with engine running for any engine on any vehicle. Tranny fluid's a different story. Second: the deal with air in the oil is this....If the oil level is too high, the crank will make contact with the oil and "churn" it up into a bubbly mess. I doubt if this applies to our KLX engines very much. It's more a problem with auto engines with a traditional pan set up. The oil has to be real full for the crankshaft to make contact. I put in 1.5 quarts just like the manual says after filter change. I also tilt the bike back & forth as it's draining to get it all out. You'll leave about 1/4 quart in if you just let it drain without tilting back & forth. If you crank get's down low enough to "churn " the oil, that could be a problem but I just don't think so. Sounds more like cam chain noise to me. Good Luck

Since this has gone on ridiculously long... and I apologize if I haven't been clear enough with my information and sources.
The 09 SERVICE manual and the owner's manual both say:
1.3L when filter is not removed
1.4L when filter is removed
1.5L when engine is completely disassembled and dry
So yes, you've been overfilling it for however long you've had your bike. I'm no mechanic so IDK if you hurt your bike or not. But my common sense says that if the manual calls for 1.3-1.4L of oil and y'all put in 1.0L even, you guys aren't putting in enough oil... but hey, its all good I'm not a mechanic so I won't tell anyone their beans and rice.

I always end up with a bit less than spec. I'm sure if you overfill just a bit to spec you will be fine. It's really no big deal to SLIGHTLY overfill with oil. I'm talking like .1L difference here.

Really who measures the oil that's put into the bike? That's the whole point of the sight glass. I add oil and get it to just the top of the glass with the bike standing straight up, then start the bike run for 30 seconds, shut it off and top it off to just the top of the glass again. Measuring oil...LOL
