Supermoto racing is one of, if not the most exciting form of motorcycle racing - at least in my opinion. I love to watch them slide the bikes around through the turns and I'd bet that if Rossi, or Hayden or any of those boys brought one of their MotoGp bikes to a Supermoto race, they would get eaten alive! You can make instant power like a thumper with a multi-cylinder motor!

I don't quite understand why you would want standard street tires on a dual sport? It looks interesting though.

Because It's a freaking blast!!!!! I can change over wheels in a hour if I want to trail ride. I also am coming
from a semi sport bike. (2005 Superhawk) The KLX250 is more fun on the street even with it's stock tires.
My friend clued me in a while ago on dual-sport vs sport bikes. His was a XL600R with stock tires and he
would fly into the corners. I could keep up because I was on a 270 pound Honda Ascot. Funny to watch
because I knew what tires he was running. His other bike was a RZ500 but it was somewhat of a stone at
400 lbs.
I also dig the cheap insurance rate of the kawa 250. That's also a blast!!!

The guys that say their dual sports are faster than the sportbikes in the twisties are probably right. Weight does have a lot to do with it. I bet my Ninja 250R would be a good match for the KLX250 in the twisties though! Many people say the 250R can easily out handle most of the bigger sportbikes because of it's light weight, and smaller wheels.
I was watching a video recently of some guy on a KLR650 taking some extreme high speed corners on some twisty roads! It made me nervous watching those skinny knobby tires take corners like that, but if it works, why not?

Nicky Hayden SuperMoto's for fun - he's pretty damn amazing on one of those bikes, too ...

markmeinteil,
I agree with you on the Ninja 250R. A bike that has "spanked" many a larger displacement sportbike.
There was a website where they told a story of a guy at a track day on an R-1. He kept seeing this KLR250 in his mirrors and decided to "show him". But each time he came around the track, the KLR250 was still in his mirrors. Eventually he pulled in to the pits to find the problem with his R-!
It's not the bike, it can be the rider!

Since my green supermoto wheels are showing up Friday, I started to look around the web.
This is one I found.

It would be a great race nonetheless, to see who would really come out on top! Sure, the ninja 250R weighs more, but not all that much especially compared to a 600 size or bigger. The 250R has better high end power compared to the KLX's single cylinder, so it would work great through the twisties in a lower gear.
I guess running them against each other would be the only way.
