Anybody mod exhaust and induction on a 06 klx 250?
Hey,
I bought a 2006 KLX250s in may 2008. Its a nice bike, but I am aware it is not living up to it's full potential. I found The KLX free mods on the internet, but my Bike is made in Canada and nothing short of cutting and welding the exhaust will remove my baffle and such. I figure instead of doing that i'll just buy an aftermarket exhaust. I just had a few questions:
1) Does a header pipe make that much of an improvement?
2) Has anyone done/seen done a exhaust upgrade on a klx250? I am aware I will have to re-jet the carb and play with the air/fuel mixture, and have knowledge of how to do so, except on what kit to buy, or needle sizes.
3) I recently played with the gear ratios for the chain. I installed a 12 tooth from sprocket in place of the stock 14. I asked at the big shop for the parts i needed and recieved the sprocket. I had to machine a spacer for the one, and it doesnt have the rubber guides built onto it either. How important is that guide. every thing seems to be running fine, i was just curious?
Thanks guy. Any help is much appreciated.

First off welcome to kf. i installed a full klx 300 exhaust on my bike and I love it. if you want to go aftermarket i would suggest that you at least get the 300 header because there are alot more slip on for the 300 than there are for our 250's. the 300 header bolts right up to our bikes. i enjoy my 300 system got it off ebay for under 100 bucks shipped you just have to look around for them. those rubber guides on either side of the stock sprocket are there to reduce the noise as i understand it. so i wouldnt be to concered about them. if you buy a dj jet kit i believe that most people buy the kit for the klx 300... i just upped my main jet. hope that this helps and good luck

KlX300 pipe is a cheap alternative and decent upgrade. (have one)
I got my jets from Jetsrus.com from what I've read the "kits" are not true to stock size. I figured it was one less thing to get wrong when tuning.

I do any and all riding. Depends on my mood and where I am. Switching to the 12 tooth has been great so far. Doesn't effect my top speed by much, gives me lots of low end to climb hills, gets my front wheel off the ground nicely and gives me some good acceleration.

Welcome, get the bike jetted, and pick one of several great pipes, and then throw the airbox lid on a shelf, and finally change to the 13-45 sprockets. You won't look back. Oh and welcome to the forums.

Well, 12:42 is the same ratio as deej's 13:45 .... even though I agree that ratio is way too small .... not that deej is
mcbain, I would say the header makes no difference, but a slip on muffler and re-jet will.
