I did ditch the helmet lock, it kept filling up with mud and it wouldn't latch. It was dumb having to take it off every other weekend to clean. I just carry it with me when I ride it somewhere. Maybe I could make a scaled-down version of the old man's... all I wanna carry is the wrenches and the metric-head tools for the 8mm/10mm bolts, and roll up the paperwork. I wouldn't carry tire tools or a tube, its wishful thinking to believe I'd actually change a flat in the woods.

I'm looking at it, and I think if I did something like the old man and just used the helmet lock to mount a round clamp that holds a pipe, it may work.

Here's the helmet lock on the '09, sorry I don't have a pic with it off.

I wish you the most sincere (sp) luck! I can't wait to see what you come up with. Next weekend is a big group trailride on the singletrack north of here, so I doubt I mess with it much until the next time it rains and the trails get closed.

I use the tool bag on my '07 stocked with Motion Pro trail tools and when we hit the trails I have an MSR fender pack with a Slime mini compressor with a hookup to my battery tender outlet for power. Also in the fender pack is a front and rear tube, two tire irons, patch kit,and a good quality wide mouth adjustable wrench for the axle nuts. I can't leave the fender pack on full time cause it blocks the headlight just enough to be unsafe.

I'm a tool freak, probably got enough on board to O/H The Titanic, some like the sleak look I ride where the campsite/staging area is 45 miles as the crow flies from nearest civilization let alone a cell phone.
