There is no state law prohibition in the U.S. for plastic gas tanks on street registered motorcycles. This has been fact for many years, but I finally even saw one of the major off road magazines, Dirt Bike March 2010, acknowledge this on their Husky TE250 test. This is an urban legend that continues to live on.

+1 I dont think there is an auto in production that doesn't have a plastic tank these days.

Back onto fitment.

You see in my pic above how far away the tank is from the frame rails.
But the angle and design of the tank would suggest that it was meant to sit closer to the rails. IMO.

The rear mount appears way too high.
But, if anything I had to raise the rear a little so the tank is clear of the carb. (pumper, its fine with the CV)
And, the shroud holes line up perfectly so lowering the rear of the tank would mess this alignment up.

The way I have it fitted is the only way.
Trust me, I tried a few things and there is no better way.

What annoys me about this design is that if Clarke had designed it better, they could have increased its capacity. Just by following the frames.
Unless of course there are different versions of the frame set up etc.
Maybe on Clarkes test bike it fits perfectly?
