Any real purpose for the chain guard?

Straight to the bin with it.
It's supposed to stop loose things getting caught in the chain.
I believe that here in Aus they must be fitted but for dirt riding they are of no use.

RE: Any real purpose for the chain guard?
I left mine off the bike after the shop put the 45 tooth and jetting and muzzy on, they said when the chain got a little slack then I could put it back on, since the adjuster on that side was hitting it, but then on the Poker Run Last month one of the guys (sorry I can't remember) said all you have to do is to flip or reverse the adjusters and your good to go. And honestly oil fling is something I can't live with (OCD) and is why I don't over oil my chain, but I did notice some light powder rust, so I think its time to oil and put the guard back on, because after all if its not deej clean then it's not really clean is it?

RE: Any real purpose for the chain guard?
When I first bought the bike I thought the thing looked really long hanging off the back like that so I cut it down to fit more and more pleasing to the eye... However, since the new sprocket change and the added colored chain I have tossed in the box with all the other stock gear.... Over the course of owning this bike the box of stock stuff has gotten to the poing that its now a large plastic chest intead of a small box. The chain gaurd is in there somewhere just incase I decide to put it back on for some wird reason....

The top one will prevent things or fingers from getting in between the chain and the sprocket.
You might think that it would be hard to get your fingers in there but during a crash all kinds of weird sh%t can happen and the chain can cut fingers clear off.
