Any harm removing the rear plastic chain guard?

Just two stray thoughts. One: if you're a reasonably experienced rider who wears proper gear (not bell-bottoms and flip flops) and you also know how to "fall off" the bike, a chain guard is probably less necessary. Two: Chain guards can also save your hide if the chain happens to fly off.....NOT exactly a Kawasaki "Good Time." Better for the chain to rip through the guard than to rip through YOU.
